Coming Home in January!

It's finally official. Jess, Lucy, and I will be coming home (Iowa) on January 3rd and staying for 14 days or so. Then, we'll be heading off to Florida for another couple weeks before heading back to the UK. We're trying to see if we can work it so that Jess can spend a couple extra days in Florida and fly back later than me.

I was mentioning to Jess the other day that Lucy has made us cool again. We used to be cool when we were first married. We were the "new married couple", and everyone was excited to watch all those first year marriage things. "Oh, their so cute! Look at them trying their hardest to make each other happy." Our first fights with each other are cute stories to tell the parents later.

But, then we got older in our marriage, and other people got married. We have younger and more creative competition. Our ratings were falling, and falling pretty fast. Jess and I didn't have the mindshare of the consumer that we used to, and the sponsors were starting to send their money elsewhere.

So, in a writers meeting during our Christmas Retreat to Iowa last year, Jess and I came up with the idea of having a baby during sweeps week. If there is anything that viewers are intruiged by, it's adding a new and unpredictable cast member. I was a good idea, and production of that baby was moving swiftly for 9 months. But, the baby ended up being a week late and we feared that the arrival might be overshadowed by other events. Luckily, the character of Lucy ended up being more substantial than we had originally perceived. All of our previous viewers and then some came flocking back to the show. We've been enjoying a nice ratings spike for the past month and a half. But, we've learned our lesson from before, and we want to be proactive in assuring that the show won't get stale again.

There is of course the coming trip. But, there may also be a side story involving a new puppy. Our lead male, Scottie, may run into some job difficulties forcing a move. Jessica, our Emmy-winning lead female, will have a holiday episode where she goes temporarily insane while decorating the tree. Also, is Lucy really who you think she is? The answer for why she was so big at birth will be answered soon too.

So, anyways, please stay tuned. There are alot of good episodes coming up. Make sure your TIVO is set up correctly.
